    Remembrance of Tom

    By Gil Kerlikowske

    Seattle, October 20, 2001

On behalf of the member of the Seattle Police Department and our colleagues in law enforcement, I want to express our sympathy to Tom's family for their loss.

I was in Washington D.C. last week and members of the Department of Justice all showed their concern over this tragedy. The Police Commissioner in Boston also told me about the memorial service that would be held in that city for Tom.

His professional and personal focus on making people safer was inspirational. Some may wonder why, at such a young age, Tom is being remembered across the nation. One only need to have witnessed his dedication and commitment to reducing violence to understand why this is so.
