ELIGIBILITY
Nominees must be:
A Puget Sound resident
A private citizen
Note: Individuals who have been recognized in a
previous Passionate Citizen award ceremony (“honorees’) may
not be considered again for two years. Elected officials are not eligible
while in office or within a year of the end of their
terms.
SELECTION CRITERIA
In assessing the candidates for the Thomas C. Wales Award for Passionate
Citizenship, the award selection committee and board of directors will look for
an individual who has given unselfishly of his or her time to fight for a just
cause that he or she believes will result in a fairer and safer community.
The award selection committee appointed by the Thomas C. Wales Foundation
will identify one exceptional individual who meets
the following criteria. (In the selection process,
the five criteria are given approximately even weight.)

Courage
Exemplifies courage and determination to promote
a just cause even in the face of persistent challenges
or significant hostility. -
Initiative
Demonstrates drive, ingenuity, and tenacity to identify
a community need and to build support to address
it.

Time Commitment
Volunteers a significant amount of time and energy
to further a cause or issue; makes more than
financial contributions.

Effectiveness
Generates positive results for the community.

Selflessness
Pursues the goal without regard to financial
compensation or fame.
