Thomas C. Wales Fellowship Program

The Thomas C. Wales Foundation Fellowship Program matches aspiring community leaders with non-profit organizations addressing critical community issues. The goals of the Fellowship Program are to develop community leadership through hands-on experience, increase the capacity of local nonprofit organizations, inspire a commitment to public service, and build a mutually-supportive network of civically engaged citizens.

Overview
The Wales Foundation matches non-profit organizations providing valuable learning, leadership, and mentorship opportunities with Fellows, scrupulously screened for their commitment and ability.

Organizations commit to maximizing each Fellow’s learning and leadership opportunities by offering one or more major projects and the mentorship of a senior staff member. Fellows serve between 180 and 200 hours between January and June and may receive academic credit for their efforts. TCWF serves as an independent resource for Fellows and organizations throughout the Fellowship, providing ongoing support, orientations, a series of workshops, and forums for Fellows to share their experiences.

TCWF Fellows learn the practical steps involved in moving a civic-minded idea from conception to fruition. Fellows observe and consult with leaders in action, and develop vital skills including writing, organizing, motivating, presenting, persuading and leading through hands-on experience.
